What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic Therapy is a specific body-based approach that works with the held tension patterns in the body using various forms of applied touch, breathwork, awareness practices, and movement. A trained Somatic Therapist works specifically to support their clients in re-establishing embodied connection with the body and in processing suppressed emotions, retained stress patterns, and trauma-related tension that is held in the body.
What is Somatic Yoga Therapy?
Somatic Yoga Therapy is an authentic yoga therapy practice that honors the Krishnamacharya lineage of adaptive yoga. Utilizing the 5 Kosha (bio-psycho-social-spiritual) model, Somatic Yoga Therapists support physical pain relief and release of tension, nervous system regulation and emotional resilience, trauma support, and somatic-informed mental health. Somatic Yoga Therapists are trained to work as adjunct mental health practitioners who support clients in 1:1 settings during times of transition, healing, and change. While a Somatic Embodiment Yoga Teacher is trained at the 200-hour level to lead group practices, a Somatic Yoga Therapist has completed an additional 875 hours of study under the direct mentorship of Stefani Wilton, the creator of Somatic Yoga Therapy. Mandorla-trained Somatic Yoga Therapists are skilled in facilitating both group and 1:1 therapy sessions. They are also certified in Integrative Thai Yoga Massage, which gives clients better access to deeper levels of somatic support and billing to insurance.
