The first time I ever stepped onto a yoga mat took place many years ago. At the time I was not in the right frame of mind to receive what yoga had to offer. Six years ago, through a personal loss, I began seeking a more meaningful way to live life. I was rock climbing in Thailand at the time and went on a yoga and rock climbing retreat. It was monsoon season, and the rock climbing portion of my retreat got cancelled. So, I found myself focusing on my yoga practice and ended up feeling that inner stillness with each practice. I met a wonderful instructor who I connected with through dance and yoga, and who encouraged me to go to India to study yoga further. I ended up living in India for two years and did an RYT 200 hour teacher training in 2011, which was a more spiritually-focused teacher training. I have practiced many different lineages and am currently enrolled in the 300 hour teacher training program at the Inspired Yoga Institute, which is alignment-based Hatha Yoga. My aim is to blend the teachings of what I learned in India with the alignment-based Hatha principles so that we can approach postures in a safe way. Yoga has given me everything that I have ever needed. Through the ups and downs of life, yoga is what has kept me grounded.
